Naples, Fla. author/researcher Steven Valdivia on journalists covering Latinos

Steven Valdivia is an author who researches the causes, and potential solutions, for youth violence. He is based in Naples, Florida, where the E.W. Scripps Company-owned Naples Daily News is located.

Mr. Valdivia shares these thoughts on journalists covering Latinos and the need for more Hispanic storytellers in the news industry:

According to the Naples Daily News, “Steven Valdivia is co-chair of the Peace and Non-Violence Research Group for the Institute for Computing in Humanities, Arts and Social Science (I-CHASS) at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His new book, “Forces — Gangs to Riots; Why and How Some Communities Erupt,” is available at LULU.com. His co-author, Fernando Hernandez, is professor emeritus at California State University at Los Angeles.”

He wrote a May 3, 2008 guest commentary for the Naples Daily News that was headlined “Supercomputers may help ‘map’ evolution of youth violence”.
