Profile of Orlando Sentinel’s HispanoSphere blog:
The Orlando Sentinel launched its HispanoSphere blog not long after the follow-up Sept. 2008 Parity Project town hall between Hispanic community leaders in Central Florida and the paper’s leadership.
It is the brainchild of Orlando Sentinel reporter and NAHJ member VÃctor Manuel Ramos. Several of the community leaders at the town hall had wanted a way to learn about what was happening in Central Florida as well as the areas of the world where they are from, or descended from. Almost every part of Latin America is represented by Florida’s Hispanic population.
It was launched in Oct. 2008.

- One Orlando-area reader posted more than 500 comments to the blog during its first year.
- About 80 Hispanic community leaders took part in a “meet-up” to celebrate its first year in Oct. 2009.
